Buying collector and luxury cars: guide and FAQ

What collector car buyers should know: matching numbers, provenance, independent inspections and buying a car abroad.

Collector cars, supercars, classic cars and luxury vehicles offered by authorised dealers and specialist brokers. Listings show year, mileage, specification and condition as provided by the dealer.

Enquiries go directly to the dealer, who provides service history, documents and inspection appointments. LuxuryBroker.com charges buyers nothing and takes no commission.

Frequently asked questions

What does "matching numbers" mean?

It means the engine, and often the gearbox, are the ones originally fitted to the car, as confirmed by the chassis and engine numbers in the factory records. For collector cars it has a significant effect on value.

How can I verify a car's provenance?

Ask for the service history, ownership records and any factory certification, such as Ferrari Classiche or a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and compare them with auction and registry records. An independent marque specialist can confirm originality.

Should I have the car inspected before buying?

Yes. An independent pre-purchase inspection by a specialist for the make is strongly recommended. For classic cars it should also cover bodywork, paint thickness, the chassis and any past restoration or accident repairs.

What should I consider when buying a car abroad?

Customs duty, import VAT, registration and type approval depend on the country of import. Several countries apply reduced import tax for qualifying historic vehicles. A specialist shipping and customs agent can calculate the total landed cost.

Does LuxuryBroker.com charge buyers a fee or commission?

No. Browsing, enquiries, search alerts and the Off-Market Desk are free for buyers, and LuxuryBroker.com takes no commission on any sale. Listing brokers pay a monthly fee per listing. Any fee for the broker's own services is agreed directly between you and the broker.

Can I be notified about new cars?

Yes. On any category or search results page, choose "Get new listings for this search by email" and enter your email address. After you confirm, you receive at most one email per day when new matching listings go online, and you can stop it with one click.
